Gobi Desert

 

The Gobi Desert Area is one of the intouched, unique, and mysterious place on earth. The site of an ancient inland sea, the Gobi Desert is a treasure chest of fossilized dinosaur bones and eggs. Roughly one-third the size of Alaska, the incredible land mass is home to Argali Sheep, Snow leopard, Hulan ( Wild ass), gazelle (antelope), Wild camel, Mazaalai (Gobi bear) and Desert Ibex. Surprisingly, it is also home to a vibrant nomad population which has inhabited this awe-inspiring place for many centuries.

 

South Gobi Desert

This part of the Gobi Desert is a well -known tourist destination, covering an area of 63,845 square miles where the Eagle Valley, the Flaming Cliffs and wildlife are the major sights. The Gobi base camp is on the foothills of the Eagle Valley. It takes 90 minutes to fly from Ulaanbaatar to the base camp which provides Mongolian cuisine and also ger accommodation from May 1 to October 1.

Gurvansaikhan National Park

Situated west of the town of Dalanzadgad, South Gobi, Gurvansaikhan Park encompasses the eastern end of the Gobi Altai Mountains. The park extends 240 miles from east to west, covering rocky and sandy plains, cliffs and ravines, salt pans and oases. It supports 52 species of mammals and 240 bird species, including breeding and migrant species.

Eagle Valley

Nestled between the beautiful peaks of the Gurvansaikhan (Three Beauties) Mountains, towering 1000 feet above the surrounding steppe, Eagle Valley Canyon shelters a wildlife and a small "glacier" which remains frozen even on summer's hottest days.

Bayangobi Desert

The Bayangobi, located 175 miles west of Ulaanbaatar, is a unique combination of forested mountains and desert-type landscape in one location. The base camp is located along the sand dunes and it is the starting point for travel by car or horse to the beautiful Bat Khan Mountain Preserve, only 9 miles away. The preserve is home to Maral stag, wolves, deer and lynx. Tours can also be arranged to Karakorum, Erdene Zuu, local temples and horse breeding camps.

Bayanhongor Desert

This part of the Gobi Desert is famous for its ancient rock statues, fossils of huge dinosaurs and the magic hot springs of Shargaljuut. Of special interest are the rock inscriptions found in the Bayan Nuruu mountains. The peculiar writing of the inscriptions and drawings are still puzzling the scholars, some of whom, still believe that the mysterious drawings were left by aliens. The area is inhabited by wild camel, wild horse, Argali sheep, Gobi bear, wolf and many other endangered species registered in the world and Mongolian Red Books. There is a base camp of gers and primary facilities to cater to visitors. Tours are arranged to lake Buun Tsagaan, Lake Orog, Mt. Bayan Nuruu, Tsagaan Agui cave and dinosaurs fossil sites upon prior request.
